Breach Tracker

Sourced from the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse (PRC), this interactive database compiles publicly reported data breach notifications from U.S. government agencies into one centralized, searchable resource. It allows you to explore breach trends over time, visualize affected sectors, and identify specific incidents.

The Data Breach Database

Browse the complete PRC database or stay updated with the latest reported breaches. Select “More Information” to view breach details, access the original source notification, or search for a specific breach by company name.

Please note that this database only displays breaches reported to government agencies, it does not include every breach in the U.S.

Data Breach Map

Data breaches impact individuals and organizations in every U.S. state. This map highlights reported incidents by state, with darker shades of red indicating higher volumes, and includes zip code-level detail where available. However, pinpointing the true geographic scope of breaches remains difficult, as most notification letters and agency reports do not disclose the precise location of the incident.

Who and When

The Data Breach Chronology analyzes each notification across multiple dimensions, including the type of organization affected—from BSF for financial services to MED for healthcare providers—and the method of breach—such as HACK for cyber attacks or PORT for portable device breaches. The high number of “UNKN” classifications reflects a common challenge in breach reporting: notifications often lack sufficient detail to determine an organization’s primary function or the specific method of breach.
